Michael P. Madden, Esquire, Of Counsel, was an original Partner of Madden & Madden. Mr. Madden is a graduate of the College of William and Mary (B.A. 1968) and Rutgers University School of Law (J. D. 1972). He is a member of the Bar of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Madden is the former prosecutor for the Borough of Collingswood and presently is the Solicitor for the Borough of Collingswood Planning Board. In addition, he served as the Municipal Court Judge for the Borough of Lindenwold from 1979 to 1981 and the Borough of Pine Valley from 1979 to 1981. He is a current member of the Panel of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association and a member of the Civil Trial Bar Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association. He also is a member of the Camden County Bar Association and Burlington County Bar Association. Mr. Madden is a former member of the Supreme Court of New Jersey, District IV, Ethics Committee. He was formerly Chairman of the Civil Trial Bar Section and a member of the Supreme Court of New Jersey Committee on the Rules of Evidence, on which he served from 2010-2014. He also has appeared before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the New Jersey Division of Civil Rights. Mr. Madden is a Rule 1:40 Qualified Mediator and an adjunct professor of Trial Advocacy at Rutgers University School of Law – Camden.

Throughout his legal career, Mr. Madden has been engaged primarily in the area of civil litigation in the defense of all types of claims. He has extensive experience in defense of insurance coverage issues, including the defense of broker’s errors and omissions claims, as well as the defense of employment discrimination claims including sexual harassment, age discrimination, wrongful discharge, ERISA litigation, the defense of governmental entities/employees in Civil Rights and Section 1983 claims including litigation under the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, New Jersey Title 18A (educational law), claims involving the Federal Family Medical Leave Act and the New Jersey Family Medical Leave Act. Mr. Madden has appeared before the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit on at least five (5) occasions, the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division on numerous occasions and the Commissioner of Education for the State of New Jersey.

Mr. Madden previously has been recognized as a Super Lawyer by New Jersey monthly magazine and also has been rated AV Preeminent® by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory for many years. He was the recipient of the 2011 Professional Lawyer of the Year Award issued by the Camden County Bar Association’s New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law. In 2014, along with the Honorable Helen E. Hoens, former New Jersey Supreme Court Justice, the Civil Trial Bar Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association awarded Mr. Madden with the James J. McLaughlin Award. The McLaughlin Award is given annually to an attorney and/or judge recognized for demonstrating civility, legal competence and professionalism in the practice of civil trial law.
